The virtual library is an information and research data base that specializes in the history of the Nicaraguan women’s movement, and human and women’s rights in Nicaragua and Central America.

It offers free downloads of books, essays, research theses, multimedia material and videos (in Spanish) produced mainly in Central America but also in other Latin American countries. Some of the topics are:

  • Citizenship
  • The history of the Nicaraguan women’s movement
  • Power relations at home and between couples
  • Law and legal frameworks
  • Research and methodology
  • Sexual and reproductive rights
  • Economy and work
  • Social movements
  • Gender identity
  • Feminism
  • Women and human rights
  • Gender violence


The virtual library was inaugurated in May 2011 and it started out with 700 PDF files and 80 videos. This material is freely available for NGOs, universities, individual researchers and academics, high school and college students.
